About School

The school in Jalandhar Cantt opened for business on September 15, 1925, with the then-Prince of Wales laying the foundation stone in February 1922. The curriculum followed military criteria and used English as the primary language of instruction. There were 250 students enrolled in the school, and the majority of the staff members are from the military. World War II saw the school reclassified as a college. Under the terms of the expansion plan, one hundred more boys—then known as cadets—were accepted. All branches of the armed forces were eligible to apply, and the requirements for admittance were loosened to accommodate Army personnel's close relatives.

The Punjab University was the college's affiliated body for the matriculation and intermediate exams. This institution turned out a lot of officers. In August 1952, the college moved to NOWGONG (Bundelkhand) and changed its name to King George's School. It was housed in the premises that had once belonged to Kitchener College. Following independence, there was a belief that these institutions need to provide liberal arts instruction and a more diverse student body.

As a result, in September 1952, these schools underwent a transformation, with half of their 300 places being made available to sons of civilians and officers in the armed forces. With effect from June 25, 2007, the institution was renamed once more as Rashtriya Military institution Chail. Boys are now prepared fit for Senior School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi under 10+2 model.
